SEMA: TRD Tundra Street Concept
From the SEMA floor directly to you, our John Neff delivers the skinny on TRD's hotted-up version of the all-new Toyota Tundra. This truck is another smack in the face of the domestic producers. Though there are literally no aftermarket accessories on the show floor for the yet-to-be-released Tundra, Toyota wants potential buyers to know that it can be customized and will look good with a little tuner TLC. The front end's revised and cleaner than the production version and the High Impact Red paint really pops. The lower ride height and larger wheels make this a tuner special, but it's the supercharged version of the Tundra's 5.7-liter V8 that really sets it apart. The blown engine was out on display and features a roots-type supercharger from Eaton with an air-to-liquid intercooler. No word, of course, on power ratings, and you won't be able to get the TRD supercharger until Fall of '07.

and now TOYOTA is MADE IN AMERICA and chevy and Ford are HECHO EN MEXICO!!!! HAHAHAHAH!!!! the proof is in the pudding and you guys tyold everyone how stupid you are. FORD AND CHEVY HAVE NOTHING TO WORRY ABOUT LOL!!!! Too bad they are closing all of their truck plants HAHAHAHAH!!!! There is a new sheriiff in town and I just dropped $40k for one loaded down!! Best truck I have ever driven, and I have owned and GMC SLT 2500 excab,4x4, GMC 1500 single cab. No caomparison at all. there is a reason that Ford and Chevy are shutting their truck plants down, its called TUNDRA!!!!

More and more Americans are realizing that Toyota is here to stay. They are striving to build the best automobiles on the planet. I'd gladly spend a little more to get quality and reliability. The new Tundra may not be the prettiest truck "pig in lipstick" out there but who is so shallow to buy on looks alone. I'd think quality , reliability , dependability , performance , and high resale value would be more important. If you haven't driven the new 5.7 L Tundra you don't know what you're missing.

I really like the looks of this Tundra.
(Though I really think the shape of the new Tundra looks good in general, which seems to put me in the minority here...but I did kinda call what it would look like in my rendering a year ago: http://www.tundrasolutions.com/photopost/showgallery.php?cat=500&ppuser=673
And I think the final version looks even better than my rendering, with the sculptured hood, and muscular overall shape. And while some people think the proportions are all funny, I would have probably thought the same before the current Ram came out and got me used to the large proportions...)
Unfortunately, I wouldn't hold my breath for the 5.7 supercharger:
The 4.7 SC from TRD came out several years after the initial launch date (originally shown in 2000 or 2001 SEMA, I believe), and it didn't stick around long (many customers weren't too happy with it).
The SC for the 4.0 V6 that was shown a few years ago for the new Tacoma has yet to come out, if it ever will.
The only supercharger that seems to be successful from TRD is the SC for the 3.4, and while it sold well, it is not what many would consider a "full kit", as fuel upgrades and possible transmission upgrades seemed to be required to prevent lean running and clutch pack wear, respectively.
Trust me, I hope I'm incorrect and TRD proves me wrong; a supercharged DOHC 5.7L engine with a six-speed transmission would be great. Also, the intercooler is a first for a TRD supercharger, so maybe this might be a change...But I'll be skeptical until dealers have them in stock.
That said, I love my TRD SC'ed 3.4L Tacoma. :)

Clean up the front a little, I also think it screams Mitsu, and make this production... I definitely would consider Toyota.
